​ Salt Marsh Kids is a 501(c)(3) based in Charleston, South Carolina. We are dedicated to
connecting children with the power of nature. Through immersive outdoor education,
storytelling, and community partnerships, our goal is to nurture resilience, agency, and
wonder in every child.
2. Who do you serve?
We serve Title I students from underserved communities across South Carolina.
Our programs are designed to reach kids who might not otherwise have access to safe,
enriching outdoor experiences.
3. What makes Salt Marsh Kids different?

Nature as the classroom: We use the salt marsh, beach, and other coastal ecosystems as living laboratories.

4. What kinds of programs do you offer?

Outdoor Expeditions: ocean seining and beach ecology, kayaking, birding, cast netting, crabbing, and various salt marsh exploration programs from land or on a motorboat.

Storytelling & Journaling: Encouraging reflection, creativity, and voice.

School Partnerships: Seasonal field trips and curriculum support for Title I schools.

We use both qualitative stories and portfolio‑based tools to track growth in:

6. How is Salt Marsh Kids funded?
We are supported through a mix of donations, grants, and community partnerships. 100%
of proceeds raised through private donors go directly to implementation, programming, and
transportation for students.
7. How can I support Salt Marsh Kids?

8. Why is transportation such a big focus?
For many of our students, the biggest barrier to outdoor learning is simply getting to the
program location. Transportation costs are significant, and by covering them, we ensure that
every child—regardless of circumstance—can step onto the beach or into the salt marsh and
experience its wonder.
